What's new?Dr. Soledad's clinic in Yanhuitlan, Oaxaca!
Yanhuitlán, Oaxaca has a doctor and clinic! Dr. Soledad’s Golden Dream realized!
On Monday, May 16, 2022, Dr. Soledad opened the clinic’s doors, ushering in her very first patients!
Yes, after nearly 17 months, work on the clinic was completed!
Dr. Soledad and her 3 children have moved into their new home! Medicine and medical supplies have been properly put into the medical storeroom. Dr. Soledad’s desk, medicine and file cabinets, exam bed and chairs for patients are all arranged in her office.
Monday through Friday each week, the waiting room door stands open for those in need of medical care!
How did all of this happen? It all started with her “GOLDEN DREAM!”
On October 2020, Dr. Soledad wrote the following to A PROMISE OF HEALTH’s directors:
“I want you to know that my GOLDEN DREAM is to return to my hometown of Yanhuitlán. There I will establish a homeopathic clinic for A PROMISE OF HEALTH to serve my people.
IT WILL REMAIN THERE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME FOR THOSE MOST IN NEED. This is what I want more than anything."
That October was a dreary time! The Covid Pandemic was in full swing and many pueblos were shut down including Ayoquezco where she worked.
During those 11 years, in partnership with A Promise of Health, she treated the village’s people and those from 24 surrounding communities.

During that time she lived and practiced medicine in an old building provided by Ayoquezco’s municipal government.
Dr. Soledad had pleaded with them to make much needed and neglected repairs to her crumbling clinic that had suffered greatly from 2 Oaxaca earthquakes. But, her pleas fell upon deaf ears. When she could no longer bear the government’s inaction and its Covid rules made it difficult for patients to visit the clinic, she decided it was time to move.
To make her point, she then purchased some land in the center of Yanhuitlán, her home village.
Moved by her determination to return home and build her “Golden Dream,” A PROMISE OF HEALTH’s directors voted unanimously to help her build the clinic!
Following much more communication, an architect was found, the clinic’s design was agreed upon, a builder found and a budget set. On January 4, 2021, with financial aid from A PROMISE OF HEALTH, construction began.
TODAY, YANHUITLAN NOW HAS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MANY YEARS A RESIDENT DOCTOR WHO WITH COMPASSION WHO WITH COMPASSION ATTENDS THE SICK!
