A Promise of Health
specifically
chose to use homeopathic medicine to deliver primary healthcare in its Yucatán
clinics. Proven safe, effective and low cost, for less than $1 a remedy, we
successfully treat patients.
Last fiscal
year (July1, 2005 – June 31, 2006) A Promise of Health’s primary healthcare
program treated 5,780 patients and dispensed 10,613 medications.
In our reporting
system, we track 94 categories of physical and mental illnesses and are able
to provide medication for them. Most common diseases, in this tropical
climate are caused by parasites or from bacterial infections. Because of
lack of refrigeration and poor hygiene, diarrhea and colitis are common.
During the rainy season we treat many respiratory illnesses including
asthma. Older patients often suffer from chronic arthritis and rheumatism
aggravated by climate, diet and hard physical work. Mental depression and
anxiety are common maladies among these marginalized people that respond
favorably to homeopathic treatment.
Homeopathy today is practiced extensively in many European and
Eastern countries, as well as Mexico.
As a medical treatment, the practice of Homeopathy began in
Germany more than 200 years ago. Homeopathic physicians in Mexico attend medical
school and serve internships just as any other medical doctor. The difference is
they are trained in homeopathic diagnosis and treatment.
In India, Mother Teresa initiated a program of homeopathy in the
Sisters of Charity clinics that is thriving today. She said that homeopathic
medicine effectively treats the greatest number of people at the lowest cost.
