Our mission
A Promise of Health
delivers programs of innovative homeopathic healthcare and health education to the poor of
rural Mexico. Providing primary healthcare is the cornerstone. Nutrition,
hygiene education and home garden programs are basic building blocks to a
healthier tomorrow. Working with local healthcare professionals, governmental
leaders and community organizations, A Promise of Health constructs a framework of support to insure
our mission.
Our work
Founded in 2001,
A Promise of Health
opened its first clinic in the small
village of Huhí, in Mexico’s Yucatán. At first our work only provided primary
healthcare. As we soon discovered, to solve basic health issues, needs of better
nutrition and hygiene must also be addressed. In the first year, A Promise of
Health’s program expanded to include health and hygiene education. A home
garden program was initiated to improve the people’s nutrition.
Today, after only 6 years, A Promise of Health, now serves nearly
158,000 people living in 20 communities in northern Yucatán. Each of our doctors
see on average, 35 patients each day. Many are children.
In
our reporting system, we track 94 categories of physical and mental illnesses
and are able to provide medication for them. Most common diseases, in this
tropical climate are caused by parasites or from bacterial infections. Because
of lack of refrigeration and poor hygiene, diarrhea and colitis are common.
During the rainy season we treat many respiratory illnesses including asthma.
Older patients often suffer from chronic arthritis and rheumatism aggravated by
climate, diet and hard physical work. Mental depression and anxiety are common
maladies among these marginalized people that respond favorably to homeopathic
treatment.
Today, A Promise of Health’s homeopathic medical clinics, education and
home garden programs, for the first time, bring low cost, effective primary
healthcare solutions to the rural Maya living in Yucatán.
A Promise of Health
is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization classified by the IRS as a 501(c)(3)
charity. All donations to A Promise of Health
are fully tax deductible.
